The ultimate goal of earning an MBA or specialized business master’s degree at Cal State Fullerton’s College of Business and Economics is to advance in a successful and rewarding career in business. Thankfully, students in our graduate programs are well-positioned for career success through a wide range of resources, from dedicated career professionals to a global and supportive alumni network. Discover more about how career services help business graduate students.
Central to supporting business graduate students is Kayleen Garvey, a graduate career advisor who specializes in MBA and specialized master’s career advancement resources. “Career services can help you through one-on-one career advising as well as gaining exposure to industry experts through employer events.” says Garvey. “Every semester brings new opportunities to engage with employers from industries ranging from health care to aerospace to consulting.”
Here are four major ways that graduate students can best position themselves for career success.
1. Business Career Services Advising
The college’s in-house career center provides opportunities for résumé, cover letter and LinkedIn profile preparation through individualized advising, mock interviews to hone the skills you’ll utilize when prepping for that dream job, tips for salary negotiation and networking best practices, and the support of a dedicated career advisor focused specifically on the needs of graduate business students.
2. Grad-Focused Career Events
Business Career Services works with Business Graduate Programs to host regular events focused on the career development of our MBA students and specialized master’s students. From accounting expos to résumé review to information sessions focused on particular career paths such as marketing or information systems, these workshops and events, offered in a mixture of in-person and virtual modalities, offer opportunities to prepare for your next steps.
3. A Career-Focused LinkedIn Group for Grad Students
As of August 2025, more than 1,100 students and alumni are part of the CSUF Graduate Business Careers at Cal State Fullerton LinkedIn group, which provides exclusive insights on the career management process, as well as a strong opportunity to network. Since its debut in 2011, hundreds of grad students and alumni have found career-changing tips and opportunities through this group.
4. Leveraging the Power of the Business Titan Network
Across the street and around the world, more than 80,000 people bear the proud identity of Business Titans. More than a quarter million are CSUF alumni generally, regardless of major. While in school, connect with alumni through guest speaker events and seminars. And don’t forget the insights and opportunities your peers have. And after graduation, the CSUF Alumni Association is a great resource to widen or strengthen your professional network.
“As a career advisor, I’ve seen students thrive when they are clear about their professional goals, stay consistent with getting advising, and follow through on the action steps,” explains Garvey.
