In today’s challenging labor market, the consensus increasingly recognizes that post-graduation career success is essential to the stature and success of a graduate degree program. At Cal State Fullerton’s College of Business and Economics, all of our MBA and specialized business master’s programs are leaders in this metric. This is especially true of the M.S. in Information Systems (MSIS) program.
Information Systems is a Growth Area in Today’s Economy
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs in computer and information technology occupations are growing much more rapidly than jobs generally, with 317,700 new openings projected annually over the next decade. Plus, the median annual wage for this group is $105,990 in May 2024, well over twice the average for jobs generally.
When factoring in accessibility, affordability, attainability and world-class teaching and research faculty, the Cal State Fullerton MSIS program may be your best opportunity to develop the needed skills.
How the MSIS Program is Primed for High-Level Role Preparation
The CSUF information systems master’s has two concentrations: business analytics and Information Systems (IS) management.
The business analytics concentration focuses on the intersection of business and data science, preparing students with the modeling, statistical and quantitative knowledge to succeed in today’s industry. From database design to data analysis and problem-solving, this concentration is beneficial to numerous analytical paths.
For those seeking managerial or leadership roles at a high level, the IS management concentration is particularly primed for student success. This concentration prepares students for careers requiring the ability to understand and use business intelligence systems, analyze organizational data and information technology needs, design and build systems and databases, and strategically manage enterprise technology assets.
Many of our faculty members have decades of applied experience in the corporate and public sectors, so teaching is infused with extracurricular professional development and curricular relevance to the latest trends. Plus, faculty, peers and the college’s business network comprise a powerful community for seeking internships and jobs.
Maximizing Your MSIS Experience
If the MSIS program is your best path and if leadership roles are your goal, connecting with workshops, career fairs, the resources of Business Career Services and Business Graduate Programs, and building connections with faculty and peers are crucial.
While technology skills are essential in the contemporary workforce, equally important are coveted emotional intelligence abilities. Mentoring programs such as the Executive in Residence and Titan Business Executive Fellows provide the opportunity for individualized advising from professional mentors in one’s chosen industry. Many of these mentoring experiences result in lifelong professional bonds and career connections.
The Giles-O’Malley Center for Leadership and Women’s Leadership Program are additional ways to explore the practical side of preparation for higher-level positions, ensuring you have the poise, skills and know-how to succeed. Plus, the Titan Business Executive Fellows program, which pairs students with professional mentors, and numerous clubs and organizations are additional opportunities for preparing for personal and professional leadership.
