The Gianneschi Center
The mission of the Gianneschi Center for Social Impact in Business (Center) is to support and encourage positive societal impact through organizations and communities associated with the College of Business & Economics (CBE) at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF).
The center's purpose is to provide a multi-stakeholder collaborative platform for enhancing positive social impact through business functions such as accounting, finance, marketing, operations, and human resources, and by engaging nonprofit organizations, businesses, CBE students, CBE faculty, academic institutions (both within and outside CSUF), and the larger community.
To achieve our mission and purpose, the center carries our multiple programs and initiatives and welcomes the involvement of all our stakeholders. We hope to inspire students to actively think of social impact as part of their career choices. Social impact as part of a business student's career path can occur in multiple ways:
- Work for NPOs in functional areas such as accounting, finance, HR and marketing. Our students already have the skills and training to do this. They just need to reorient their thought process to consider this as an option. At the very least, they should consider either an internship or volunteering in these areas for NPOs.
Start or join a social enterprise. Social enterprises have an explicit goal of balancing social and financial objectives. A lot of times, these organizations deliver on the social impact but fail to sustain financially. So, business students joining such organizations will be very helpful.
- Work in corporate roles that have an explicit social impact component. Such roles come in different forms, such as social responsibility, corporate sustainability, community outreach, diversity and inclusion office, etc.
- Work in a regular corporate role but contribute volunteering time for social impact. Most students do not realize or actively consider the corporate volunteering programs and employee resource groups when they start their careers. Being aware of these mechanisms for creating social impact might inspire them to select companies that provide such opportunities.
