Posted December 05, 2025 by Daniel Coats

Flexibility, accessibility and world-class education combine with Cal State Fullerton’s fully-online M.S. in Information Technology ranks third in California among online graduate programs according to U.S. News & World Report, a recognition of the program’s excellence in teaching and outcomes.

Students have two concentrations to choose from: data science and IT management, enabling them to select the study path that best aligns with career goals.

In the 2020s, computer and information technology occupations are among the most lucrative and fastest-growing career paths in the United States, with a median wage of $105,990, but as high as nearly $300,000 in some roles, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Paths to Help You Reach Higher

Among the most popular paths for graduates with an M.S. in Information Technology include:

  • Information Security Analyst. These professionals oversee security measures to protect organizations from cyber threats to the digital infrastructure.
  • Computer and Information Research Scientist. Research to make existing technology safer, more accessible and more versatile are among the responsibilities of these professionals who take the lead in complex information systems challenges.
  • Computer and Information Systems Manager. Setting strategy, communicating with the C-Suite and overseeing staff to achieve organizational goals are among the responsibilities of these vital managers.
  • Chief Information Officer or Cybersecurity Executive Roles. Increasingly, technological direction and competence are represented in the C-Suite itself. These leaders help direct a company or organization’s decision making at the highest levels.
  • Data Architect. Starting from the ground up, these professionals create the blueprints for the technological infrastructure of today’s companies, schools, nonprofits, and government agencies.
