Considering Pivoting Careers? Explore CSUF’s Specialized Master’s Programs

Posted July 17, 2025 by Daniel Coats

The job market and career trends are ever-changing. And this translates to a constant need to pivot and reinvent oneself as a workforce member. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the average person will change careers five to seven times during their working life. Specialized business master’s programs, like those offered at Cal State Fullerton’s College of Business and Economics, are a great way to remain proactive with these transitions, ensuring increased pay and advancement opportunities.

Our college’s coursework is focused on the latest trends, such as AI-infused information systems and the latest tax policies. The focus on peer networking facilitates finding the best opportunities in companies and organizations of all kinds. Cal State Fullerton business lecturers and professors have decades of applied professional experience, which is coupled with networking and mentoring opportunities such as the Executive in Residence program and Titan Business Executive Fellows. All of this translates into an exemplary opportunity for growth and connection with what’s powering the workforce today.

Here is a breakdown of how each of our specialized master’s programs can benefit you in your next career transition.

M.S. in Accountancy: Immerse yourself in real-world applications, technology and data analytics at a preferred recruiting school for big four accounting firms with a focus on the latest technological and regulatory trends. There are two program options – a traditional format, which offers flexibility for working professionals, and a cohort-based track for students who just completed their bachelor’s degree. This high-demand degree can accelerate your path to leadership.

M.S. in Taxation: Build your tax knowledge and advanced research skills, with a focus on the latest regulatory trends and accounting standards. Programs such as the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which helps low- to moderate-income Orange County residents file their taxes, enhance real-life skills.

M.A. in Economics: Customize your degree by focusing on a particular area of interest, while building your understanding of concepts and applications of trends such as tariffs and stock market volatility to the business world. There are also numerous opportunities to conduct research used in official university forecasts and studies. Graduates of this program can go into private, public and governmental sector careers.

M.S. in Information Systems: This STEM-designated program gives students the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills to assist organizations of all kinds with computer-based systems, one of the most in-demand sectors of the contemporary economy. Concentrations are available for both generalist and business analytics careers, providing the specialization for your chosen path.

M.S. in Information Technology: This is a fully online program recognized by U.S. News & World Report, utilizing a cohort model designed to build professional networks, enhance understanding of cybersecurity and cyberinsurance, and learn systems development processes. Concentrations in information management and data science provide for the emphasis you seek to jumpstart your career goals.

Take your next step on your career journey today! Registration for Cal State Fullerton’s specialized business master’s programs begins Oct. 1 for fall 2026 applicants and Aug. 1 for spring 2026.
