Request for Excess Credits
Instructions for submitting the Request for Excess Units
Students in the College of Business and Economics may submit a Request for Excess Units form, for review two weeks prior to the first day of classes.

When choosing an advisor for the form, please choose Dr. Diane Mazzey. After reviewing the eligibility information below, fill out the Request for Excess Units form for the appropriate semester from the Registration and Records website. and submit.

The Director of the Business Advising Center will review within 72 business hours.

Once approved by the Director, the form will be forwarded to the Department Chair who will review within 72 business hours for a final decision.
NOTE: Please keep in mind that Registration and Records may have additional criteria depending on the semester and enrollment demands, therefore, the final decision will be made by the Registration and Records office. Students enrolled in summer classes, requesting Fall excess units, may have to wait until summer grades are posted before R&R will make a final decision. Registration and Records sets timelines as to when they will start accepting the forms.
Eligibility for submitting the Request for Excess Units
Fall and Spring
When requesting to enroll in more than 18 units, CBE may only approve an additional 3 units of enrollment if the following criteria has been met:
- You must have completed at least 12 units at CSUF and be in good academic standing.
- You must have a cumulative, CSUF, major, and concentration GPA of 2.7 or higher.
Summer
- No more than seven units in any five- or six-week session, or
- No more than nine units in an eight-week session, or
- No more than 12 units in a 10-week session, or
- No more than 16 units in the entire summer term
When requesting to enroll in more than 16 units, CBE may only approve an additional 3 units of enrollment if the following criteria has been met:
- You must have completed at least 12 units at CSUF and be in good academic standing.
- You must have a cumulative, CSUF, major, and concentration GPA of 3.2 or higher.
Winter
When requesting to enroll in more than 4 units, CBE may only approve an additional 2 units of enrollment if the following criteria has been met:
- You must have completed at least 12 units at CSUF and be in good academic standing.
- You must have a cumulative, CSUF, major, and concentration GPA of 2.7 or higher.
Instructions for Submitting the request for Excess Units - Academic Notice
To request to have 14 Unit Academic Notice Limit Increase Due to Grade Change or Applied Repeats you would make a request by using the Excess Units - form
In order to be eligible to request an increase of the academic notice unit limit (previously known as probation) your recent GPA for both CSUF and overall must be at or above a 2.0 at the end of the last grading cycle.
The Steps to Make a Request
- Submit the online Excess Units - form to the Director, Dr. Diane Mazzey. You can access the form online from Registration & Records.
- The Director will review your request and if approved will sign off on the form.
