Repeat Exception Petition
Repeat Exception Petition Instructions (Business Students)
Effective Fall 2009, the CSU Chancellor’s Office established maximum limits on course repeats. These limits are not flexible. However, in rare cases involving serious and compelling circumstances, students may request an exception with supporting documentation by submitting a Repeat Exception Petition.
You must submit a Repeat Exception Petition if:
- You have reached or exceeded 28 total repeat units, or
- You have taken a course three times and need a fourth attempt
Important: Business students approved for an exception are limited to up to 6 units of enrollment in the Fall or Spring semester for which the exception is requested.
STEP 1 - The Repeat Count Request Form
- Complete the Repeat Count Request Form found on the Registration and Record's (R&R) website to receive a Repeat Exception petition.
- Fill out Section A (student portion) of the Repeat Count Request form
- Email the form to the Petitions Analyst Alice Williams
NOTES:
- Requests submitted after the monthly review deadline will be reviewed the following month.
- Once your form is reviewed and approved, you will receive the Repeat Exception Petition.
STEP 2 - Repeat Exception Petition
- Complete the Repeat Exception Petition and gather all your required documentation.
- Email the Repeat Exception Petition and documentation to the Director of Business Advising, Dr. Diane Mazzey, at [email protected]
- After review (Typically 3 - 4 business days), you will be notified by email to schedule a meeting with the Director of Business Advising.
IMPORTANT:
- Allow enough time to meet the review deadline, or your petition will be moved to the next month.
- After meeting with the Director, you will submit the petition to Registration & Records for committee review and a final decision.
Planning & Timeline Considerations

- The CBE review process can take up to 3 weeks.
- Petitions submitted after the semester begins may be reviewed for the following semester at the discretion of the College of Business and Economics.
