Applying for Graduation

Whether you arrived at Cal State Fullerton as a first-time freshman or a transfer student, you will be graduating as a College of Business and Economics Titan. You are eligible to apply for graduation once you have declared a concentration, earned at least 85 cumulative units, and if you have a 1.85 or higher in your CSUF and cumulative GPA. Transfer students must have completed at least one semester at CSUF.

You can apply for fall, spring, or summer graduation. As a graduation candidate, you will be invited to participate in the Commencement Ceremony for the year in which you graduate.

Graduation Workshops

As a student in the College of Business and Economics, you must complete a mandatory Grad Check Workshop. After you apply for graduation, you will be invited to complete the Grad Check Workshop online via Canvas. Be sure to accept the CBE Grad Check Workshop invitation on Canvas, complete all modules, and complete the Qualtrics Grad Check Worksheet (link available in Canvas) to have your Grad Check reviewed and be approved for graduation.

How to Apply for Graduation

Step 1 - Eligibility to Apply

When you are eligible, you will receive an email from CSUF to apply for graduation. Log in to your Student Homepage, click your Tasks tile and view your “To Do List.”

Step 2 - Apply for Graduation Online

Click the Academic Records tile then select "Apply for Graduation" from the left-hand menu. Follow the prompts for selecting the term and degree program.

NOTE: Your graduation term should be the semester in which you will complete your final requirements. For example, if you have eight courses remaining, you take four in the FALL and four in the SPRING semester. Spring would be your final semester and the term you select for your graduation date.

After you apply, you can still request to change your graduation date. To make a change, email cbegradspecialist@fullerton.edu  Provide your CWID and preferred graduation term in your email.

Step 3 - Pay Graduation Fee

All students are required to pay a one-time Graduation Fee of $115. You may pay the fee at the time of applying or by the deadline. View Graduation Fee due date online here: Deadlines for Graduation. You can pay the fee online via your Student Homepage: Academic Record (PDF) or in person at Student Business Services (GH 180).

Step 4 - Commencement

Graduating from the university and participating in Commencement are two separate processes.  Graduation is the completion of all degree requirements and awarding of your degree.  Commencement is the ceremony that celebrates the achievement of students who have graduated or will soon graduate during the academic year.

Commencement takes place once a year every May. Once you become a Graduation Candidate, you will receive communications from the University to register for commencement. You will be invited to participate in the commencement ceremony for the year in which you graduate.

Example:
Fall 2024, Spring 2025, Summer 2025 = Commencement in 2025
Fall 2025, Spring 2026, Summer 2026 = Commencement in 2026

Purchase your cap and gown and attend Commencement with friends and family!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

I meet all the requirements to apply for graduation but my homepage will not let me. Who do I contact?

Please contact records at ARSC@fullerton.edu

If I paid my graduation fee already but need more time, do I need to pay the fee again?

No. The graduation fee is a one-time payment that carries over with you until you graduate.

Can someone do a final review of my TDA and requirements to make sure I am good to graduate?

Yes. You are welcome to contact the Business Advising Center via email at businessadvising@fullerton.edu to request a Graduating Student Checklist. This will provide you with an overview of all areas that must be completed in order to earn your degree. Please note that this is not the final grad check approval, but can help you prepare for your final semester(s).

I need to change my graduation date.  Can I change it?

Yes, to extend your graduation to a future semester, follow the step-by-step instructions online here.

If you need to backdate your graduation to a previous semester, please submit a request via email to cbegradspecialist@fullerton.edu. The request should include your name, CWID, current graduation term and new/desired graduation term.

When do I walk for graduation ceremonies?

You can graduate in Fall, Spring, or Summer semesters and you will be invited to participate in the Commencement ceremony held after Spring semester for the year in which you graduate.

Example:
Fall 2024, Spring 2025, Summer 2025 = Commencement in May 2025
Fall 2025, Spring 2026, Summer 2026 = Commencement in May 2026

I don’t know if I have paid the fee or not and/or I cannot pay on my student homepage. Who I do contact?

Please contact CSUF Student Business Services.
