Program in Real Estate
The Program in Real Estate at CSUF is designed for students who are principally interested in careers in the real estate industry. It provides the student with both general and specialized real estate knowledge that is applicable to professional areas such as real estate finance and investment, brokerage, market analysis, and appraisal as well as being pertinent to the acquisition, development, management, and disposition of real property. The program provides the analytical, communication and interpersonal skills to make decisions about real estate assets under conditions of risk and uncertainty. The student will be able to apply the acquired knowledge to specific real estate issues in a wide variety of corporate, entrepreneurial, and personal situations.
UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM - Course Requirements
The Program in Real Estate is offered under the sponsorship of the Department of Finance. All students in the Department must complete the following 6 unit Finance Core Requirement:
- Finance 321 Financial Management II (3), and
Finance 340 Introduction to Investments (3) OR
Finance 342 Capital and Money Markets (3)
In addition to the Finance Core Requirement, students in the Program in Real Estate must complete Finance 351 - Introduction to Real Estate (3), and at least 9 additional units from the following Real Estate Advisory Track:
- Finance 351 Real Estate Principles (3)
- Finance 352 Real Estate Finance (3)
- Finance 353 Real Estate Valuation (3)
- Finance 355 Real Estate Investment Analysis (3)
- Finance 400 Property Management (3)
- Finance 451 Real Estate Practice (3)
- Finance 452 Legal Aspects of Real Estate (3)
- Finance 454 Real Estate Economics (3)
As of April 9th 2019, we have entered into an Articulation agreement with the California Department of Real Estate (DRE) to allow students to sit for the Broker License Exam upon completion of the BA in Finance Real Estate track and all 8 courses set by the DRE without prior experience. Also, as of April 2012 The Center for Real Estate has into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with IREM® (Institute of Real Estate Management) agreeing to collaborate on projects to enhance student understanding of property management as a career path. Our university is 1 of 23 university connections and 1 of 2 California Universities that are in a Memorandum of Understanding agreement with IREM®.

GRADUATE PROGRAM- CCIM® Program Partner
The Center for Real Estate, as of April 4th 2019 has partnered with the CCIM® Institute (Certified Commercial Investment Member) to enhance students commercial Real Estate understanding and to streamline the CCIM® designation process. Our university is 1 of 52 universities that have entered into this partnership, and only 1 of 4 in California.
