CSUF Economists Will Provide an Update on a Changing World at the Spring Economic Forecast

Less than a third of the way through 2022, the global geopolitical and economic situation looks markedly different than when the year began.

“The world that has emerged post-pandemic is not only more complex, but is also beset by new challenges, including some that have been long dormant: a multi-decade spike in inflation, rapid rate hikes, higher energy costs, unprecedented labor shortages, persistent supply disruptions, and continued flare-ups in a once-in-a-century pandemic,” explains Mira Farka, co-director of the Woods Center for Economic Analysis and Forecasting and associate professor of economics. “The Russia/Ukraine war is unlikely to end soon and will have a meaningful impact for the world economy. Stock markets are jittery. The world is on edge.”

Will the expansion continue? Will the Fed engineer a “soft landing” through interest rate increases? What are the consequences of the Russia/Ukraine war? Will the housing market boom last?

Join Cal State Fullerton economists Anil Puri and Mira Farka at the Spring Economic Forecast on April 22 for in-depth commentary and perspective on these and other questions about the future of the global, national, California and Orange County economies over the next few years.

“There is no question that the path of this expansion has become much narrower now compared to a year ago, perched precariously on a cliff with a stagflation-like abyss on one side and a recession-depth gulf in the other,” explains Farka. “Will the economy manage to avoid either one? Will growth continue? This presentation will address these issues and more.”

The two-hour conference and real estate panel discussion will be held in a hybrid format for the first time, with an in-person presentation at Cal State Fullerton’s state-of-the-art Meng Auditorium and free online streaming for registered attendees.

The event begins at 10 a.m. with registration and networking, followed by the presentation by Puri and Farka at 10:30 a.m., and a real estate panel discussion featuring Southern California industry professionals before the event ends at 12:30 p.m.
