For the past two decades, Economics Professor Mira Farka has been among the most visible faces in Cal State Fullerton’s economics program, serving as a beloved teaching professor and economic forecaster, including co-director of the Woods Center for Economic Analysis and Forecasting. Earlier this month, Farka added an appointment to California’s Council of Economic Advisors to her accolades, becoming one of six economic experts named to the board by State Controller Malia Cohen.
The position will put Farka on the cutting-edge of advising California’s government leaders on the state’s fiscal health, including providing policy recommendations to improve the well-being of the state’s nearly 40 million residents through improvements in affordability, tax policy, health care, education, small business and workforce development.
Setting a Standard for High-Quality Yet Accessible Economic Reporting
In recent years, Farka’s signature presentations on the trends transforming the national and global economies at the twice annual Cal State Fullerton economic forecast events, as well as interim updates given at symposia and meetings of community organizations throughout Southern California, have provided Farka with a rising stature among the state’s policymakers and academics alike.
Farka’s research appears regularly in top-tier peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Business & Economic Statistics, Journal of Financial Research, European Financial Management, Financial Review and Journal of Empirical Finance. Both industry leaders and experts alike appreciate Farka’s analysis of central bank decisions and monetary policy and how it impacts Main Street and Wall Street.
“It is an honor for Dr. Mira Farka to be invited by Controller Cohen to serve on the Council of Economic Advisors,” said Dean Sri Sundaram. “Dr. Farka brings strong credentials to the council and is widely recognized for her ability to translate complex economic data into actionable insights. She will be a valuable resource and a highly effective member as the controller carries out her charge of overseeing the State of California’s financial resources.”
About the Council of Economic Advisors and Woods Center
The Council of Economic Advisors provides the state controller, the chief fiscal officer for the largest and most economically prosperous state in the nation, with academic-focused and independent analysis of the trends and developments in the economy, both in the Golden State and half a world away. The council is chaired by Jerry Nickelsburg, an emeritus faculty of UCLA’s Anderson Forecast, which serves as the prototype for economic forecasting throughout the region.
