The annual Student Investment Conference at Cal State Fullerton’s College of Business and Economics provides opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students and even high schoolers interested in investment, wealth management or financial planning careers to explore these paths through workshops and competitions in exchange for scholarship funding.
Business Titans joined the event on Nov. 14 to participate in the stock pitch and fund pitch competition and listen to panel discussions featuring faculty, students and friends of the Titan Capital Management program on equity, wealth management, fixed income, exchange traded funds (ETF), and mutual funds and the latest economic trends.
Cal State Fullerton student teams took first place in both the stock and fund pitch competitions, in each case obtaining $500 in scholarships. The stock pitch winning team comprised Daniel Castellanos ’26, Clinton Cox ’27 and Tristan Yang ’26, while Ray Muire ’27, Trinity Tran ’27, Samanta Santonil ’26, Eamon Helding ’26, and Issac O’Barr ’26 were the first-place portfolio and fund team.
Other schools represented at the event included Orange Coast College, Irvine Valley College, Santiago Canyon College, Saddleback College, Fullerton College, Cal State Los Angeles, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Northridge, Cal State Long Beach, and Centennial High School.
Participants were tasked with making buy or sell recommendations and bolstering their case through financial and market analysis, demonstrating essential quantitative and business skills. Business professionals who are part of Cal State Fullerton’s vast business network acted as judges in evaluating the cases, while Titan Capital Management students Ray Muire ’27, Isaac O’Barr ’26, Eamon Andrew Helding ’26, and Trinity Tran ’27 acted as panel moderators.
The event was sponsored by major financial and investment companies including Goldman Sachs and PENNYMAC, the two Titan Ambassador sponsors.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for students not only from CSUF, but also local universities and junior colleges, to connect with and learn from experienced industry practitioners in different areas of asset management as well as learn about the Titan Capital Management program,” explains Kelly Ko, the program’s equity director and a finance instructor. “It also gives students the opportunity to compete and showcase their skills to industry experts in the field.”
Students Gain from a Mini Economic Forecast
The all-day conference also featured a summary of the recent economic forecast, presented by economist and Woods Center director Anil Puri. This talk focused on the impact of tariffs, trends in economic growth, and the latest on inflation and labor markets. Students enthusiastically listened to Puri’s presentation to better anticipate the world they will influence and asked questions about economic inequality and the methodology of forecasting.
