Today’s accountants don’t do the same work that their counterparts did decades ago. With the rise of technology, simple bookkeeping has taken a back seat. Using the latest tech tools and making judgments for clients is at the forefront of the accounting profession.
Developing data-adept accounting professionals is essential. And Cal State Fullerton’s School of Accountancy is up to the task with landmark 2019 agreements with robotics process automation software makers UiPath and Alteryx. Students thus have free access to use the latest predicative and statistical software and classes teaching them how to use them.
“Any good accounting program in the country has components of technology and analytics in it,” says Vivek Mande, director of the school. “We have really, really invested in that. We want to be leaders of implementing tech and analytics into accounting curricula.”
As a resource for the Orange County accounting community – from the Big Four to boutique firms – the school has also implemented an agreement with Becker, one of the largest CPA exam providers, with the goal of boosting exam pass rates among graduates. CSUF subsidizes the $2,400 cost of the program and offers a scholarship to the top 50 student enrollees.
