The 24th Annual SEC “Hot Topics” Conference presented by the Center for Corporate Reporting and Governance at Cal State Fullerton’s College of Business and Economics will feature SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce as a keynote speaker as well as panel discussions on the tax policy outlook, tariffs and the supply chain. These panels feature leading private sector and government accounting and regulatory professionals such as Commissioner Peirce and the former IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig. The event’s theme is “Tariffs, Taxes and Technology: Changes Coming Your Way, Are You Ready?” This annual conference is designed for accountants, auditors, tax professionals, accounting- and finance-related academics, attorneys, business executives, and business students.
Attendees are eligible to earn seven CPE credits and 5.5 California MCLE credits for either in-person or virtual attendance, so this is an outstanding opportunity for continuing education in a year in which tariffs, supply chain changes, and the continuing evolution of AI are transforming the business landscape.
Peirce’s keynote presentation will provide an update on the SEC as well as discussions on Crypto Currencies and more. The latest from the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) will be presented by Mary Mazzella, the organization’s assistant director, in a discussion moderated by Grant Thornton partner Graham Dyer. This will be followed by a panel discussion on leveraging AI and cryptocurrency, featuring Bill Dummett, chief privacy officer of Genesys; Nicolas Dumont, vice president and director of Lockton; Jack Karagulleyan, tax principal and co-leader of BDO’s National Digital Asset Practice; Akemona CEO Ravi Srivastava; and Frances Waldmann, a partner at Gibson Dunn, all professionals on the cutting edge of this revolution.
Attorney David Horton of Gibson Dunn; Jill Howe, CFO of Lineage Cell Therapeutics; and former IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig will examine the tax policy outlook, in a discussion moderated by Baker Tilly Principal Jason Emmons. The final panel discussion, examining tariffs and the supply chain, will feature EY Global Trade Partner Lynlee Brown; Zulema Garcia, a partner at CNM; and Deloitte global trade leader Theresa Walker. The moderator will be James Pai, managing director of international tax customs and international trade services for BDO.
“The combination of SEC Commissioner Peirce and Former IRS Commissioner Rettig is absolutely fantastic and really sets this event on top of the pedestal from all other events,” explains April Morris, director of the Center for Corporate Reporting and Governance.
