Ameerah Hirji ’26 and Dominick Spano ’25, accounting students at Cal State Fullerton’s College of Business and Economics, are the recipients of the renowned PCAOB Scholars Program award, bestowed by the Public Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) that oversees the audits of U.S. companies in the wake of the corporate scandals of the early 2000s.
Each student will receive $15,000 to fund their education during their future academic years at Cal State Fullerton.
Cal State Fullerton’s School of Accountancy, known for its world-class accounting education program, was selected to nominate two of its achieving students for this prestigious award. The School of Accountancy has one of the largest accounting programs in the nation and is the only accredited accounting program in Orange County. It is particularly recognized for its technology-driven curriculum and blending theory with practice.
The School of Accountancy’s Scholarship Committee, chaired by Professor Zhejia Ling, nominated Hirji and Spano for a combination of academic performance, financial need, leadership, letters of recommendation and extracurricular involvement.
Since arriving at Cal State Fullerton in 2022, Hirji has served as president of Future Business Leaders of America – Phi Beta Lambda, executive board treasurer of Beta Alpha Psi, and president of public relations for the Business Honors Program, among other involvements, including being part of the Women’s Leadership Program.
This summer, she is serving as a technology risk consulting intern for RSM in Irvine.
Spano has been part of the Business Honors Program for the past three years, including serving as executive director of analytics last academic year. He was also co-president of the Student Managed Investment Fund for 2023-2024 and is active in the Finance Association.
This June, he started an internship with EY’s FSO technology risk assurance service line and joined Titan Capital Management, the college’s student-managed investment portfolio.
