The Department of Accounting at California State University is a separately accredited entity within the College of Business and Economics. The Vision of the Department drives its mission, strategy, and goals and objectives.

Mission Statement: Through excellence in teaching, a forward-looking curriculum, a culturally diverse environment, applied collaborative research and valuable alliances with the business community, we offer accredited accounting programs that develop globally aware business leaders with practical knowledge in the field of accounting.

Vision: The Department of Accounting provides an exemplary accounting program in Orange County that is recognized for its excellence in preparing students who are knowledgeable in the use of conceptual, theoretical and practical applications of financial and non-financial information to reach successful business solutions. The Department also seeks to recruit and retain faculty who do high-quality research that benefits students and professionals. Further, we establish and maintain close community involvement through faculty and student interaction with the business community as well as bring former students and professionals back into the classroom.

To prepare students for professional careers, the Department of Accounting offers an undergraduate concentration in Accounting as part of the BA in Business Administration. Undergraduate education is the main emphasis of the Department, and our undergraduate program in accounting is one of the largest in the nation with the number of majors ranging from over 1000 to 870. Fully 93% of the total credit hours offered by the Department are for the undergraduate student credit hours. A satellite campus opened in Fall 2002 at the Irvine Campus, located in South Orange County. The Department of Accounting has opened a complete undergraduate degree concentration at the Irvine Campus. Additionally, the Department offers two Master’s degrees: an MS in Accounting and an MS in Taxation. The latter program is taught at the main campus in Fullerton as well as in the Irvine Spectrum to serve the population in central and south Orange County. The Department also supports the teaching of accounting classes in the College’s MBA program.
