Among the new faculty at the Cal State Fullerton College of Business and Economics is incoming Assistant Professor of Economics Anthony Bald. A 2025 alumnus of Harvard University with a Ph.D. in public policy, Bald also has Southern California roots with his undergraduate degree from Pomona College in Claremont.
“After spending time in Los Angeles as an undergraduate, I am thrilled to return to Southern California,” says Bald. “CSUF provides a valuable combination of classroom-based and real-world learning opportunities. I am looking forward to integrating into the college as an applied microeconomist.”
Bald’s doctoral dissertation was a collection of essays in labor economics and child welfare, examining three topics: the rise of the nursing profession, state vaccination policy and childhood vaccination rates, and the economics of the foster care system that impacts 5% of American children. At Cal State Fullerton, Bald hopes to expand his research, exploring health outcomes for child welfare-involved populations and career choice within the medical field.
This fall, Bald will be teaching ECON 305 – Economics, Causality and Analytics, looking at the importance of understanding how causality is determined in the social sciences and how this is modeled. This course has interdisciplinary implications for economics and finance, public health, political science, and more.
In his free time, Bald plays racquetball and squash and is currently working on perfecting his pickleball skills.
