From Empowering Women to Advising the Dean, Class of ’24 Information Systems Grad Aima Osime Looks Back and Forward

Aima Osime

Among the more than 2,200 graduates of the Cal State Fullerton College of Business and Economics at commencement last month was Aima Osime, a management information systems grad who has already made a major impact on Cal State Fullerton in her student days.

A year ago, Osime founded Women in Business and STEM (WIBS), a supportive community for Cal State Fullerton women students seeking to reach higher in business, science, engineering, math and technology career paths.

And during the 2023-2024 academic year, Osime was among three student representatives on the Dean’s Advisory Board, ensuring the college’s strategic planning incorporates the perspectives of the Gen Z-focused student demographics.

Osime shared some of the high points of her Titan experience, inspiration and advice.

What were the challenges and rewards of starting WIBS?

I faced the daunting task of navigating the growing pains of a new club. Seeking advice from experienced club presidents proved invaluable. Their guidance on effective management and growth strategies helped us overcome numerous hurdles.

A crucial lesson I learned was the importance of seeking help and leveraging the network around me. Many issues were resolved through connections and collaborations with others who had the expertise or resources we needed.

The most rewarding aspect has been seeing WIBS grow to 300 members in its first semester, affirming our hard work and the demand for a supportive community for women in business and STEM fields. A strong leadership team that shares the same passion and vision has been key to our success.

Their dedication and resilience have driven the club’s growth and impact. Additionally, networking with companies and professionals has enriched our members’ experiences and opportunities. I’m immensely grateful to our advisor Kellee Carter, whose unwavering support and practical advice were crucial to our success.

What is your advice for students considering founding clubs?

Always seek out help. Reach out to experienced leaders and mentors, and build a network of supportive individuals. Having a strong leadership team that shares your passion is essential.

Believe in your vision, persist through challenges, and remember that the impact you can make is well worth the effort. Never give up, and keep pushing forward.

You are looking ahead to a career in finance and data analysis. Tell us a little about your future.

As I look ahead, my career objectives are centered on the intersection of data and finance/business. I am excited to begin my journey as an analyst at BlackRock, where I plan to expand my financial knowledge and deepen my understanding of leveraging data and technology to enhance financial strategies.

In the coming years, I see myself growing within the company, continuously learning, and contributing to innovative solutions that drive financial success. My goal is to become an expert in using data analytics to inform decision-making and optimize financial outcomes.

What are some words of encouragement you have for your fellow Titans?

Embrace every opportunity that comes your way and never be afraid to seek help. College is a time for growth, exploration, and learning—not just academically, but personally and professionally as well. Join clubs, take on leadership roles, and don’t shy away from challenges. Remember, persistence and resilience are key.

Surround yourself with supportive peers and mentors who share your passion and vision. Believe in your abilities, stay curious, and always strive for excellence. Your hard work will pay off, and the connections you build will be invaluable.

As a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board, you had firsthand exposure to many of the donors who make our business college possible. Why should other Southern California business professionals consider giving back to the College of Business and Economics?

Your support is crucial in shaping the future of the next generation. With the donations we received during Titans Give, we are able to keep the club running without charging students fees to join. This allows us to provide equal opportunities for all students, regardless of their financial background.

By giving back, you are investing in the potential of students who are eager to learn, innovate, and make a difference in the world. Your contributions help provide the resources, opportunities, and mentorship necessary for students to thrive. You are not just funding education; you are empowering future leaders, innovators, and changemakers.

Your generosity ensures that talented and driven students have the means to achieve their goals and positively impact their communities and beyond. Thank you for making a difference in our lives and for believing in the power of education and support.
