From Drone Business to Tax Prep in Alaska, the 2015 Mihaylo Magazine Provides a Snapshot of Mihaylo College

Posted January 06, 2016 by Daniel Coats

The cover of the 2015 Mihaylo Magazine, the annual alumni publication of Cal State Fullerton's business college.

Now available online, the 2015 edition of Mihaylo Magazine showcases faculty research, student activities, alumni achievements and reports on the Centers of Excellence and business network that are on the forefront of innovation and progress.

The 2015 edition of Mihaylo Magazine, the annual business college periodical, provides a snapshot of a stellar year for CSU Fullerton’s award-winning business school.

The magazine’s cover story examines the CSUF Startup Incubator, which debuted in January under the direction of Mihaylo’s Center for Entrepreneurship and provides resources, guidance and practical support for innovative startup ideas. One such new business is Chopit Drones, an enterprise providing aerial photography and video services cofounded by Mihaylo graduate student John Tsui ’17.

Highlighting the work the college does off campus, Mihaylo’s Center for Economic Education is preparing the next generation of financially-literate adults through programs for local K-12 students in partnership with U.S. Bank, including the after-school Financial Genius program, the college savings individual development account (IDA) program and summer Financial Fitness Camps.

Alumni such as Klara Farkas ’89, founder of the personal brand coaching organization Klarity International and program facilitator and regional manager for Women Unlimited Inc., and Ben Gold ’04,’12, cofounder and president of Irvine-based Quick Bridge Funding, provide tips to succeed in the contemporary business world and provide analysis of their respective industries.

Underscoring Mihaylo’s commitment to student success, many activities – both in the classroom and off-campus – covered in the magazine highlight the opportunities for student to excel, including an innovative management accounting course developed by Mihaylo Accounting Lecturer Randy Hoffman, regional and national competitions providing professional development and résumé boosters to business students, internship and service opportunities in Brazil and Alaska, and the latest on the college’s stellar rankings.

A showcase of the business school’s world-class faculty examines published research throughout the last year, and a special tribute celebrates Mihaylo Marketing Professor Irene Lange’s 50 years of service to the college.

Joe Cervantes, partner and senior executive vice president of operations at R.D. Olson Construction and president of the Mihaylo College Executive Council, provides an update on the local construction industry. In addition, a roster of community business leaders – including many CSUF alumni – and a review of their involvement in the school exemplifies the vast business network available to students.
