Hundreds of accounting and regulatory professionals, academic faculty, and students will gather at the Hotel Irvine on Sept. 25, 2020, for the 19th annual SEC “Hot Topics” Conference, which provides an update on financial reporting from a business, legal and technological standpoint.

Intended for C-Suite executives, accountants, lawyers, academics and financial professionals, the annual event is presented by the Center for Corporate Reporting and Governance at Cal State Fullerton’s College of Business and Economics. The center provides continuing education and networking opportunities to accounting and finance professionals, as well as connections for academics and career-growth opportunities for students.

Leading Macroeconomist to Speak at This Year’s Event

The keynote speaker at this year’s event is Diane Swonk, chief economist of Grant Thornton LLP. Swonk is one of the most respected macroeconomists of our time, providing expert commentary on monetary policy, economic structural changes as distinct from cycles, and the economics of the labor market. Her analysis is sought by both government policymakers and journalists. She is a fellow of the National Association for Business Economics (NABE) and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Other highlights of the event will include expert discussion on trends, such as artificial intelligence, and updates to public and private regulations, and a legal and financial reporting update regarding the impact of coronavirus on the industry and how to navigate within in.

Professionals attending the conference have the opportunity to earn CPE/MCLE credits.

On the previous day, some of the greatest accounting and auditing academic minds will gather at the Hotel Irvine for the center’s annual Haskell & White Conference, jointly hosted by Haskell & White and the Managerial Auditing Journal, featuring discussion and peer review of research papers related to technology and accounting.
