Sherif Khalifa, Ph.D.

Dr. Sherif Khalifa is an assistant professor in the Department of Economics at California State University, Fullerton. Sherif earned his Ph.D. at the Johns Hopkins University in 2006. His research interests include the study of labor markets over the business cycle, with an attempt to explain the cyclical patterns of labor mobility, skill mismatch, the skill premium and the persistence of unemployment, besides the impact of monetary policy on labor markets. Sherif also studies the impact of openness and outsourcing on labor markets, especially on the skill premium and the unemployment of skilled and unskilled workers, in both developed and developing countries. Finally, Sherif studies the impact of income inequality on economic performance in economies with heterogeneous agents. Sherif has published in academic journals such as Macroeconomic Dynamics, Economic Modeling, International Economic Journal, Southern Economic Journal, Journal of Economic Development, Journal of International Development, Journal of Applied Economics, and Applied Economics Letters, in addition to non-academic venues such as Foreign Policy Journal and Aljazeera.net.
