At CCRG, Dr. Gong is responsible for three programs. First, he works with Dr. Son on research of executive compensation and corporate governance in Orange County. Second, he works with Dr. Son to organize an annual academic conference on accounting and corporate governance. Third, he works with Dr. Son to organize the CCRG case competition every semester.

Dr. James Jianxin Gong is an Associate Professor in the Accounting Department at California State University, Fullerton. He joined Mihaylo College in 2011. Prior to that, he was an Assistant Professor at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. He earned his Ph.D. from University of Southern California in 2005, and B. Eng. from Zhejiang University in China Before starting his graduate studies, Gong was a research assistant at Unirule Institute of Economics in Beijing and an Engineer at Keppel Engineering (Suzhou).

Gong’s primary teaching area is financial accounting, ethics and corporate governance at the undergraduate and graduate level. He also teaches a capstone class for the M. S. in Accounting.

Gong’s research covers financial accounting and corporate governance, executive compensation, and cost and revenue analysis in the motion picture industry. His goal is to publish high quality research that will also be useful for teaching. He integrates research into teaching. He has published a number of research articles in academic journals including Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Management Accounting Research, Corporate Governance: An International Review, and Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting. In addition, he has been actively involved in academic conferences as a presenter, a discussant, and a moderator in American Accounting Association annual, regional and sectional conferences.
