What You Need to Apply

We're excited you’re considering the exceptional master’s programs offered by Cal State Fullerton’s College of Business and Economics.

Before applying, review the requirements below and be sure to check our application process and filing deadlines.

Bachelor's Degree

A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from an accredited institution is required. If your degree was earned outside the United States, please review the International Admissions guidance on degree equivalency.

Three-Year Degrees: A three-year bachelor’s degree is not accepted unless you have completed a postgraduate diploma or a master’s program to meet the U.S. four year degree equivalency. If you do not have an additional degree, you may submit your transcripts to WES or IEE for an evaluation to determine U.S. equivalency.

Minimum GPA

A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) is required for eligibility. Please note eligibility alone does not guarantee admissions. Primary consideration is typically given to your last two years of coursework.

Official GMAT or GRE Score

Our programs use test scores differently. Some are test-optional or do not require a test if certain conditions are met. CSUF school code: 4589 for both GMAT and GRE. Scores are valid for 5 years.

Please review the program-specific details below:

MBA – Test-Optional

Submitting a GMAT or GRE score is not required. You may apply with or without test scores. A strong test score can strengthen applications from candidates without a quantitative background (academic or professional).

You might consider applying without a test if you can demonstrate quantitative ability through either:

  • Coursework (e.g., calculus, statistics or other quantitative subjects), or

  • Professional experience (e.g. data analysis, financial modeling, budgeting, project management, operations management, etc.).

MS Accountancy and MS Taxation

A test score is not required, but it is strongly recommended for applicants with a GPA below 3.0 or without relevant work experience.

MA Economics

The GRE is not required for applicants with a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and at least a 3.0 GPA in Calculus. Please note this program does not accept the GMAT.

MS Information Systems and MS Information Technology

The GMAT/GRE is not required if you earned a “B” or better in both calculus and an upper-division undergraduate statistics or data analysis course AND meet one of the following criteria:

  • Hold a degree from an AACSB-accredited business school or a STEM program with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or

  • Have completed a graduate degree in any discipline.

If you do not meet these criteria and would like to request a GMAT/GRE waiver, please submit a GMAT/GRE Waiver.

International Applicants

Applicants educated in countries where English is not the majority language must submit proof of English proficiency before an admissions decision can be made. CSUF school code: 4589

  • TOEFL iBT – 88

  • IELTS – 7.0

  • PTE Academic – 65

  • Duolingo English Test – 120

English language proficiency may be waived for applicants educated in approved majority-English-speaking countries. Please see the International Admissions English Proficiency page for the current list and policy details.

New Business Graduate Students

The Michael A. Reagan Graduate Scholarship is an $10,000 non-need-based scholarship open to new graduate business students who are entering their first semester. It recognizes and honors students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance.

Students Interested in Government Finance/Management Careers

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) offers internships and scholarships for students interested in pursuing government finance and management careers. Learn more at the  GFOA website.

Financial Aid

To be considered for financial aid, you must be officially admitted to the College of Business and Economics and have submitted the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA). The CSUF code is 001137 and the priority filing date is March 2.

How to Apply

Application Process

These steps will walk you through how to apply to CSUF business graduate programs. Admission to the program is competitive and based on the holistic assessment of each candidate’s academic, personal and professional background. Please make sure to submit your Cal State Apply application, and college online application and supplemental materials by the application deadline noted below. Paper applications are no longer available.

Step 1: Complete the Cal State Apply Application

Applicants must submit all transcripts, degree certificates and test scores to Cal State Apply Application. Please click the links below:

As you navigate the application process through Cal State Apply, please note the following items:

  • In the Supporting Information section of the application, you may opt out of submitting anything in the Experience section. 
  • Under Program Materials, add unofficial copies of your transcripts in the Documents section.
  • Submit the application fee.

Step 2: Submit the college's supplemental application items.

Upon submission of the Cal State Apply application, you will receive an email with a unique link and instructions on how to complete our supplemental application.

Step 3: Send supplemental documents to the Graduate Admissions Office.
  • Official Graduate Aptitude Exam Score Report
    • GMAT:  www.mba.com (Select code that matches degree program of interest)
    • GRE:  www.ets.org (Select code 4589)

  • International Student Requirements
    • Translated copy of all degree certificates from previous colleges and/or universities

    • Official transcripts and degree certificates are required from schools listed on the Cal State Apply Application

    • Transcripts sent electronically, faxed or opened are not considered official.

    • The university will accept The International Credential Advantage Package (ICAP) through World Education Services in place of official transcripts for applicants unable to mail transcripts directly from their colleges and/or universities. To learn more about this option, please contact WES - All academic records received become official records of the university and cannot be returned or reissued.

    • Official English Proficiency Exam Score Report (if all degrees were obtained outside of the United States)
    • CSUF Financial Affidavit signed by financial sponsor
    • Bank statement from your financial sponsor's bank (dated within the last year), showing sufficient funding.

    • Copy of your passport

    • Copy of your current I-20 and/or I-94, if your are currently in the United States

  • Official Transcripts:

    • Submit official transcripts from the college or university where you earned your bachelor’s degree.
