Winning the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Los Angeles research challenge has become a February tradition for investment students at Cal State Fullerton’s Titan Capital Management program. For the fifth year running, a Titan team has advanced to the Western Subregional round this March.
Team Captain Kenneth Sherb and teammates Bryan Barton, Kyrstin Huxtable, Eric Ramos and Blake Wong defeated teams from Cal State Los Angeles, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Pepperdine University, Loyola Marymount University and California Lutheran University at the Feb. 16 event.
Another team of Business Titans took second place this year.
Students were asked to produce a group research report for Air Lease Corporation and present this to a group of seven industry judges.
“With CSUF winning the competition the previous four years in a row, the team definitely felt the pressure to do everything we could to keep the streak going,” says Team Captain Sherb.
“As this is a judged competition, it is hard to control whether or not we win, so we motivated ourselves by continually striving to set the bar higher. We succeeded through our collective experience in the Student Managed Investment Fund and TCM programs as well as the time and encouragement from our coaches, mentors and all of our enthusiastic supporters.”
“While only one team can advance, I’m so proud of all of these students,” says Kelly Ko, equity director of Titan Capital Management. “It truly shows the commitment and excellence we have in our program that we had juniors on both teams successfully competing against teams comprised of all graduate students!”
Last year, Titan Capital Management students kept advancing, eventually placing in the top six among more than 1,000 schools worldwide.
We can’t wait to see what the 2024 team will accomplish!
