Tough Class Assignments? Get Help from Cal State Fullerton’s Tutoring Resources

Posted March 10, 2016 by Daniel Coats
Two young women talk at the Mihaylo College Tutoring Center, which provides peer advising for Cal State Fullerton business students facing difficult coursework.

The Mihaylo Tutoring Center assists students with some of the toughest business courses that sometimes act as roadblocks, preventing timely graduation.

A university-level business education can be challenging. Thankfully, Cal State Fullerton offers many tutoring resources to help every student rise to his or her potential.

Having trouble with the math for that business calculus course? Worried about how you’ll write a 15-page report for your business communications professor? Have no fear, because Cal State Fullerton offers numerous tutoring resources across a wide range of subjects to assist students in finishing their programs on time and with good grades.

Following are some of the options available to students:

Mihaylo College Tutoring Center

Business students have some unique academic hurdles, but the student staff at the Mihaylo College Tutoring Center (SGMH 2404) is up to the challenge. The center offers assistance with accounting, business writing, economics, finance and information systems prerequisites. They also offer break-out rooms, which can be reserved for a quiet and private place for group study assignments. The center is open during the semesters Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Brief appointments through Skype are available on Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. For more information, contact 657-278-2704 or [email protected].

Residence Hall Tutoring

Tutoring for our business students who live at the Cal State Fullerton residence halls is more convenient than ever. Beginning in spring 2016, a tutor from the Mihaylo College Tutoring Center visits the third floor of Elm Hall on Tuesday evenings. For more information, contact Cal State Fullerton higher education graduate student Jonathan Chan ’17 at [email protected].

The student tutors of Cal State Fullerton's Writing Center pose in the Pollak Library, with bookshelves in the background.

Student tutors at the Writing Center provide personalized advisement for well-written assignments.

Cal State Fullerton Writing Center

Regardless of major, writing assignments are at the heart of all university degree programs. Many students find this among the most challenging aspects of their experience. Cal State Fullerton’s Writing Center, located at the Pollak Library North first floor, provides one-on-one advising with students trained in both tutoring and writing skills. Appointments are available Monday through Saturday. To schedule an appointment, visit their scheduling center online.

Math Tutoring Center

Many students dread mathematics – and even select their major with the hopes of avoiding difficult math courses. Get help with your major-specific or general education math assignments by visiting the Math Tutoring Center, sponsored by the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, at MH 553. Hours during the semesters are Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to noon. For more information, contact the Department of Mathematics at 657-278-3631 or [email protected].

University Learning Center (ULC)

Trained student tutors provide assistance with general education courses, including science and mathematics, at the University Learning Center (ULC), on the Pollak Library second floor. The center is open from the second week of each semester to the last day of instruction Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon. You can make an appointment online or receive a tutor’s suggestions for your paper in two to four business days with an online paper submission.

Graduate Student Success Center

Cal State Fullerton offers tutoring specifically for graduate students at the new Graduate Student Success Center in PLS 365. Assistance with writing and statistics for students of all disciplines is available by appointment. Schedule a meeting by emailing [email protected] and including your top three appointment time preferences, the purpose for your visit and your degree program. Tutors are available afternoons, evenings and weekends. Group study rooms are also available.
