CSUF Master’s in Information Technology Ranked 17th in the Nation by U.S. News & World Report

Posted January 28, 2021 by Daniel Coats

The online Master’s in Information Technology (MSIT) program at Cal State Fullerton’s College of Business and Economics has again been recognized by U.S. News & World Report, which has ranked the degree 17th nationally for Online Graduate Business programs (non-MBA).

The university’s online graduate programs in education and engineering were also recognized, ranking fourth and 25th, respectively, in the 2021 Best Online Master’s Programs, released on Jan. 26.

The program is ranked first in California and is widely noted for its low cost and high quality, as well as the strong research acumen of its teaching faculty.

Established in 2005, years before many universities were offering fully online technology programs, today’s MSIT offers concentrations in information technology management and data science, and is regularly updated to reflect the latest technological trends, such as cybersecurity and resilience.

“The MSIT program is designed for full-time working professionals in various fields in information technology. The program appeals to those IT professionals with desire to understand the theoretical pinning’s of information technology tools,” says Pramod Pandya, the director of the program. “The MSIT program is competitive for admission, and keeps track of graduating students on their career path in information technology.”

Pandya says the U.S. News & World Report ranking is influential in the industry. “IT professionals are cognizant of this ranking as it reinforces the quality of standard of education and its relevance to their career,” he says.

Rahul Bhaskar, chair of the Department of Information Systems and Decision Sciences, which includes the MSIT program, says both incoming professionals and longtime veterans of the information systems field benefit from the program.

“Many students want to validate their work. They have a degree from a long time ago and the MSIT certifies their knowledge,” he says.

The cohort-based format of the program is a particular benefit for students, providing lifelong connections and support. The program’s Board of Advisors, made up of industry professionals, ensures an even stronger applied perspective.

“Once you do the program with us, we will always help you in your career, with our network of faculty, staff and alumni,” says Bhaskar.

The degree program may be completed in 20 months by taking two courses per semester year-round, an attractive schedule for working graduate students. And the cohort-based model provides an instant network of support and professional connections.
