What is one goal you have in life? Hundreds of Cal State Fullerton business students, faculty and staff share their missions and motivations each October on the Before I Die Wall, an annual exercise aimed at encouraging a purpose-driven future.
From travel to degree completion to daredevil exploits to entrepreneurship to marriage, family and friendship, the giant slabs of chalkboard come to chronicle the full spectrum of hopes and dreams of the Business Titan community.
The CSUF wall, located in the SGMH Courtyard, is a signature event of Business Honors.
The concept of a Before I Die Wall began in New Orleans, when residents began writing their life goals on the wall of an abandoned house in the post-Hurricane Katrina city. Today, the concept has spread to many communities and campuses, with more than 5,000 such walls around the world.
Cal State Fullerton was an early adopter of the trend, first hosting the wall in 2013.
The wall event went virtual during the COVID pandemic, ensuring the contemplative exercise continued when perhaps most relevant.
Educators and administrators throughout the Cal State system – including former CSU Chancellor Timothy White – have lauded the participation in the CSUF wall.
This year’s CSUF wall will run from Oct. 10 to 12.
