Boot Camp & Resources

If you are new to startups, the process of launching a business takes a good deal of time and knowledge to do. For the purposes of the CSUF Startup Competition we understand that most competitors are entering the competition with an idea/concept and not an actual business. Our goal is to encourage people to proactively start the process of going from concept to startup so we focus the CSUF Startup Competition on the essential parts of a business plan. In order to enter this competition and start your entrepreneurial journey you have to complete and turn in a CSUF Startup Competition Application no later than March 16 at 11:55pm.

The PowerPoint presentation used by Dr. Atul Teckchandani at a previous Boot Camp gives an overview of what the competition is and advice on how to create your best business concept.

Here is also a highlight video from CSUF Center for Entrepreneurship Director John Bradley Jackson talking about the CSUF Business Plan Competition, which is what the CSUF Startup Competition used to be called (we changed the name because we want students to focus on their idea and not on the creation of a business plan at this stage of their startup).

If you have any questions about the competition you can email us at [email protected] and we can help you out; you can visit the Center for Entrepreneurship in their offices in SGMH 3280, and/or you can visit with a professor during office hours.

In general, this is the information that we ask for from our competitors

NOTE: These are general guidelines for what we are looking for but you still must submit a completed CSUF Startup Competition Application in order to be considered for the CSUF Startup Competition.

Problem/Opportunity (Just as it sounds, this is the problem that your potential customers have.)

Solution (This is where you explain what your solution is)

Customer/Market (Who is going to buy your product and what are some of the general characteristics of this market?)

Business Model (How are you going to make money?)

Qualifications of Team Members (Show how your team members are a good fit for this idea and for starting a business in general)

Competition (These are the people that you will be competiting with for your customers' dollars)

Your Competitive Advantage (In what way or ways is your offering better than your competitors?)

Your Go-To-Market Strategy (How are you going to get your product/service into the hands of your customers)

The Ask (What resources - funding, people, etc. - do you need to launch your startup.)
