2017 Summer Internships
The Sales Leadership Center offers students a direct connection to internships and careers after graduation. The following students participated in sales internships over summer provided by the center's Corporate Sponsors.
"I had a summer internship with Enterprise’s Fleet Management division. This is the toughest division in Enterprise to get a job in and considered the elite division because the work is hard, but rewarding. It is a pure sales position, in the form that your phone will never ring, no companies call you looking for fleet managing services, it is always outbound calls to CEO’s and CFO’s of companies. It is about convincing the decision maker that say has 40 drivers on a reimbursement program that they should spend a large sum of money investing in company cars, not because it will save money, it might, but it’s a value sale not a commodity. We provide company cars and operate at the same cost you were paying before, while at the same time making employees happier, fixing costs, having more control, and improving company image. This is because in California you must pay a driver a minimum of 53.5 cents per mile, with a company car this can drop to 30 cents, including fuel and maintenance. This 9-week internship lead to a part time opportunity (I’m still working there), and has taught me the value of persistence, hard-work, and how to draw out the real objections in a sale. The first objection thrown out is usually not the real one holding them back. Consider an argument with your significant other, how often when you ask “what’s wrong?” do they tell you the real reason the first time? Almost never, you have to know how to draw out the real objections in order to tackle and overcome them to close the deal."
