Why should I select an Information Systems concentration in the College of Business and Economics at Cal State Fullerton?

Information systems are one of the fastest growing fields in business since computers play such a vital role in the proper management of a firm's information resources. Information systems are used in business, industry and government and are essential for a successful operation.

The information systems concentration at Cal State Fullerton  is designed to provide students with the skills required to immediately begin a career in the information systems field, as well as the lifelong  skills needed to remain current in this fast-paced, dynamic field.

 

What is information systems?

Information systems are computer-based information systems that aid management in making decisions and assist in implementing and controlling management policies.  Applications include airline reservations, banking transaction, crime prevention networks, election returns, real estate assessment, tax records, newspaper databases, sports statistics, and computer-assisted learning.

 

What career opportunities are available?

Career opportunities for students with training in information systems are wide-ranging and varied. Possible job opportunities include: telecommunications specialist, network administrator, PC applications specialist, systems analyst, webmaster, client/server programmer/analyst, IS director, database administrator and software developer, among others.

What are some special features and programs?

Students in the information systems concentration are encouraged to apply their knowledge to real world business situations. In a number of courses students will be engaged in addressing the information systems needs of a local company through a group project.

What student activities can I join?

The Student AITP Club (Association of Information Technology Professionals) has monthly meetings. The Club is associated with the California Southland Professional Chapter of AITP and students are encouraged to attend meetings of the California Southland Chapter as a way of networking with information technology professionals.
