Mentoring

The College of Business and Economic's Executive Council Mentoring Program is designed to provide students a bridge between their academic life and their respective careers by mentors who are business professionals from the Executive Council.

Executive Council professionals will mentor Business Honors Students, Dean’s Scholars and Business Inter-Club Council students about the intricacies of the corporate culture. Some topics may include what to expect and how to prepare for job interviews, the job expectations of corporate employers, networking, and professional development. The mentor will guide the student using experience and observation as a point of reference.

Mentors and Mentees are encouraged to meet once per month to provide valuable insight through one-on-one meetings, opportunities to experience professional work life and attend Executive Council events.

Congratulations Darren Jones '91
Recipient of the 2020 Executive Council Mentor of the Year Award

"Darren has been a fantastic mentor. Despite Covid-19, Darren made every effort to provide me with the best mentorship experience possible. He has given me endless amounts of career advice and guidance. With his help, I was able to successfully create my first website and promotional video. I am very grateful for the opportunity to have had such an incredible professional like Darren as my mentor. To this day, he continues to act as my mentor and guide me along my academic journey at CSUF"
— Mentee, Britney Young '20

"Britney is such a great Titan! She is open and receptive, growth-minded, focused, and hardworking.  I always looked forward to connecting with her.  She invited me to advise on her current projects as well as broader conversations around career and the economy (which is of course in transition due to the global pandemic).  I very much plan to remain connected with Britney as she winds down her senior year and graduates.  It will continue to be rewarding to provide advice to someone I have grown to admire."
– Darren Jones '91, The Walt Disney Company

Outstanding mentors are critical to the education of students and to creating a successful student experience. Thank you to all of the Executive Council Members who participate in the mentoring program.
