Honors Networking Program Event Photo

Student FAQ

  • How can I join the program?
    • To participate in the Honors Networking Program (HNP), you must be invited. Invitations are sent to marketing students who have earned at least a 3.0 overall GPA. If you feel you are a high achiever that was overlooked, please let us know as soon as possible. Click here.
  • What is the Honors Networking Program?
    • The HNP consists of two networking breakfasts a year; typically over 20 companies and 70 students participate. Typically, there is one breakfast during the fall semester (late October or early November) and one breakfast during the spring semester (April). Invitations are sent out one month before the event. Additionally various job and internship postings are e-mailed to members during the year.
  • Why should I join the program and participate in the breakfasts?
    • There are several reasons:
      -- Presumably you're pursuing a degree in marketing to eventually find a great job; this program can lead to one. We have 20+ Orange County companies (Corporate Partners) attending each breakfast.
      -- The Corporate Partners are there ONLY to meet the best marketing students (YOU) Typically, each corporate partner brings two representatives so the student to corporate partner ration is almost 2-1. This is not a Career Fair.
      -- Based on our research, 70% of students who attend the breakfast have follow-up with the companies.
      -- If you are not graduating soon, this is a chance to practice networking. Additionally, many of these companies are looking to hire students for internships, part-time jobs, and projects. Students that secure these positions and perform well often have jobs with these companies waiting for them when they do graduate. They also gain relevant work experience.
      -- If you already have a career job, this is a chance for you to network with other key companies in OC.
      -- This is a fun event and you have nothing to lose.
  • Where do the breakfasts take place?
    • The location alternates between the Fullerton Marriott (Nutwood and the 57 freeway and the Scott O’Brien Innovation Center (Mihaylo Hall, 3230) at Cal State Fullerton.
  • What happens at a networking breakfast?
    • The following sequence of events occurs:
      -- You arrive at the breakfast at 7:00 AM and check in;
      -- When you enter the meeting room you will find round tables set up with the names of the companies on the tables. If you arrive early, you can have a full choice of what companies to sit with;
      -- Corporate partners arrive at 7:15 AM and join students at the tables. At this point, over breakfast, you will have the opportunity to chat with the companies.
      -- Special guests (Deans, Faculty and Career Center Directors) arrive at 7:30 AM;
      -- At 7:30, the HNP Directors make some opening remarks and then introduce each company. They have 1 minute which to introduce themselves, tell you a little about their company and the opportunities that they have.
      -- After the last manager has spoken, the meeting becomes highly interactive. Students and managers move around and gather in informal groups where they begin to know one other and explore the potential for further cooperation.
      -- The event typically ends between 9:00-9:30 AM. If needed, you are free to leave early.
