Dr. Barry Pasternack is a Professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences (ISDS) Department. He has served as the Department Chair since 1995 and a member of the Academic Senate of the California State University (ASCSU) since 1996. In 2007/08 he served as Chair this body. The ASCSU is represents the more than 20,000 faculty members on the 23 campuses of the California State University. He chaired the CSU Statewide Computer Science and Information Systems Discipline Council from 1999 through 2007.
Dr. Pasternack received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley in the field of Operations Research in 1974. Prior to joining the ISDS department in 1977, he was a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Laboratories and an Assistant Professor at Stevens Institute of Technology. He is the author of some twenty-five publications including articles in journals such as Marketing Science, Naval Research Logistics, SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, and Journal of the Operational Research Society. He is also the coauthor of the text Applied Management Science published by John Wiley. He has served as an international consultant in the area of information systems to the governments of three countries and has lectured at several domestic and international universities. In 1999 he was named Outstanding Faculty Member in the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics and in 2002 he received the Faculty Leadership in Collegial Governance Award for CSU Fullerton.
