Concentration Elective Approval Form

Students admitted to the MBA program may choose from eleven concentration areas to tailor their degree towards their professional, personal and educational goals. Concentrations are offered in the following areas: Accounting; Economics; E-commerce; Entrepreneurship; Finance; General; Information Systems; International Business; Management; Management Science; and Marketing.  Students admitted to the MS Accountancy, MS Taxation, or MS Information System program will choose electives in consultation with the Department Chair / Career Path Advisor.

How do I choose my Concentration?

Step 1 When to choose a concentration:

  • Newly admitted students are required to submit a concentration approval form by the following deadlines:

    • Newly Admitted Fall students: Submit for approval by October 1st
    • Newly admitted Spring students: Submit for approval by April 1st
  • If you need assistance determining which concentration is right for your professional goals please contact a Department Chair / Career Path Advisor.
  • Please keep in mind not all concentration courses will be offered each semester.  If a course on your concentration approval sheet is not offered during the semester you may change your concentration electives. Please see the section at the end of the page how to change your electives.

Courses taken and completed prior to approval may not be used as part of your study plan.

Step 2 - Who to contact:

    • During your consultation the department chair / Career Path Advisor will provide you with guidance on what courses should be suitable for your professional goals.  Students interested in a General Concentration should contact the graduate programs advisor.
    • In addition, we offer the opportunity to travel abroad to Europe and earn 3 credits for an elective.
    • Students may, in some cases, us an independent study course (599) as an elective; however, special approval is required. To see the additional form click here.
    • Please keep in mind not all concentration courses will be offered each semester.  If a course on your concentration approval sheet is not offered during the semester you may change your concentration electives. Please see the section at the end of the page how to change your electives.

Step 3Prior to the consultation what is needed?

Step 4 What do I do during/after the consultation?

  • After:
Send a copy, of the signed form, to the New Admit Advisor either by email newadmit@fullerton.edu or you may drop off the sheet at the reception desk in SGMH-3280.

If you have any questions about the process please contact the New Admit Advisor at (657)278-3622 (option 2).

How do I change the electives for my Concentration?

If at any time you need to make changes to your concentration coursework, you must:

  1. Obtain approval from the Department Chair / Career Path Advisor, if required for your concentration.
  2. All change requests must resubmit a new concentration approval sheet prior to enrolling in the courses.
  3. This process is same one that you followed the first time that you obtained approval for your concentration (see above).

How do I change to a different Concentration?

To request a change in your concentration you must do the following:

  1. You must submit a  petition and a new concentration approval sheet must accompany the petition.
  2. You must also submit a new concentration approval sheet (see above in step 3), with the petition, for the new concentration you are petitioning.
  3. In most cases no appointment is required. However, Students changing to or from Accounting or International Business must schedule a meeting with the Graduate Advisor or New Admit Advisor to obtain an updated study plan.
  4. You will be notified via email once your request for the change has been approved.
