Assessment Using On-line Survey Tools

Abstract

This workshop focuses on the development of the Department of Communications assessment document to be used for WASC and our accreditation by the AECJMC.  Also, an in-depth explanation of the various methods of delivery including online survey of faculty, alumni and internship supervisors.

Faculty and administrators who are working at developing an assessment tool for their departments will get a real-life look at the process – the challenges,  

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this workshop, participants should be able to:

• Discover ways to arrive at the appropriate questions to ask in the assessment process
• Decide on which audiences will provide valuable input into the assessment process
• Develop a plan of assessment for their department
• Determine the methods of distribution to the various audiences to be assessed

Biographies

Genelle Belmas, Ph.D. is tenure-track faculty in the Communications department and has been head of the assessment committee for the department since 2005. She is also currently chair of the department’s five-year national re-accreditation efforts, in which assessment plays a key role.

Pamela Caldwell, M.A. is Lecturer in the Department of Communications.  She has overseen the Communications and Radio-TV-Film internships for the past 10 years, taking it from the paper production to the innovative online system it is today. She been on the assessment committee for the past three years.
