Opening Keynote Address
Working toward Sustainable Assessment at San Josť State University
San Josť State University is developing and implementing an assessment process focused on sustainability. Design features included maximum overlap between accreditation, program review and other assessment efforts; program support in the form of a director of assessment, two assessment facilitators from each college, and funds for departmental retreats; recognition for assessment activities in the form of a Provostís Assessment Award and inclusion of assessment in retention, tenure and promotion. There is special focus on making assessment meaningful and rewarding for faculty. Panelists will give a brief overview, answer questions, and facilitate audience discussion.

Jackie Snell became Coordinator of Assessment at San Jose State University in fall 2006 and has been a Professor in the Marketing Department since 1990.
Thalia Anagnos is Director of Assessment and a Professor in the General Engineering Department at San Josť State University. In addition to assessment, her interests lie in the areas of structural mechanics; seismic hazard, risk, reliability, and loss estimation; engineering education; and K-12 science education.
Scot M. Guenter is a Professor of American Studies at San Josť State University where he currently serves as an Assessment Facilitator for the College of Humanities and the Arts. He has served as Faculty in Residence for General Education at SJSU and is current president of the California American Studies Association.
