“The Best Practices of the Most successful Family Businesses in the World”

Family businesses comprise over 70% of companies around the world. Nearly 80% of these companies do not succeed beyond the founding generation. What is it that the 20% who do succeed have in common? Is there a secret to their success? Are there steps that these companies follow to ensure their success into future generations? What are the great family businesses doing to be successful and profitable today? What can you do to enhance the likelihood of success today, and into generations to come? Join us on Wednesday, November 20, from 7 – 9 AM to get answers to these, and many other questions. This is the first in a 4-part “Family Business for Breakfast” series that will be taking place on the Cal State Fullerton campus, presented by the Center for Family Business. Learn from our renowned speaker, Dr. Joanne Norton, as well as other family businesses who have been where you are, and are currently where you would like to be. “What I hear I forget, what I see I remember. But what I do, I understand.” This great quote by Roy Disney beautifully sums up our philosophy at the Center for Family Business. We want you to leave the session having received great knowledge and tools, and the ability to use these tools in your business the moment you return to work.

Dr. JoAnne Norton is a consultant with the Family Business Consulting Group, specializing in advising multi-generational family businesses of all sizes. She works with families to improve communication, to develop the next generation of leaders, and to coach non-family executives in the U.S. and Canada. As an adjunct professor for seven years at California State University, Fullerton, JoAnne created the Family Business Dynamics course for the College of Business and Economics. She continues to serve on the Advisory Board of the CSUF Family Business Center. She earned a doctorate in organizational leadership from Pepperdine University and did post-graduate work at the Georgetown Family Center.

JoAnne grew up in a successful second-generation family business in the Midwest, where she learned the complexities of maintaining harmonious relationships, as well as the importance of maintaining good communication, by observing her father, mother and two uncles. She lives in Irvine, California with her husband, Brian.
