Veterinary Pet Insurance
VPI has a great opportunity for a full-time Compliance Analyst to join our team. Our Corporate office is in Brea, North Orange County.
Summary:
Assist in developing and applying the company’s overall corporate compliance program. Develop and apply policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Participate in audits and surveys to monitor compliance. Evaluate organizational practices and procedures. Coordinate organizational compliance initiatives. Assist in developing and implementing company-wide training programs on compliance issues. Review and analyze state insurance department regulations. Review operating department practices, procedures, and publications to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Analyze statutes and regulations as they apply to overall compliance. Adjuster
Develop or assist in preparing new or revised policy forms to ensure compliance with statute or regulation, or as directed by management. Submit forms to and negotiate with the state insurance departments; modify submitted forms as necessary. Review, analyze and communicate notice of new laws and regulations as appropriate. Design follow-up system to track filings.
Receive, log and track all complaints submitted by third parties (BBB, DOI, legal, etc.) Enter all complaints into data base, research those relating to claim adjustment, and respond to third party complaints. Review, evaluate and coordinate defense of small claims litigation which may include managing outside defense counsel. Appear on behalf of the Company in court as needed. Maintain follow up system to track all complaints.
Review and process agent appointments, terminations and license applications as well as licensing for adjusters and corporate entities to ensure compliance with state licensing and appointment requirements. Corresponds with all state insurance departments to renew all outstanding state licenses as well as any reinstatements. Researches and advises Producers and Adjusters of the state requirements and/or changes in procedures. May be given responsibility for providing training to equip/enable Producers or Adjusters to maintain required continuing education hours. Design follow up system and tracks all licensing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Formulates, compiles, prepares and files all new or revised product policy forms, and continually works with all 50 state insurance departments to gain approval. (30%)
- Formulates, develops and continually makes independent decisions about the application of approved policies and procedures to ensure that all departments at VPI are in compliance with relevant laws and regulations. (30%)
- Receives, researches, and analyzes complaints; then independently prepares complete, detailed responses to the complainant and the third party entity requesting the information. (20%)

of time spent performing this job:
- Logs and tracks all complaints through the completion stage.
- Travels to various states to represent the company in legal actions or assist/manage the appointed legal counsel.
- Independently works with the State Departments of Insurance for all department audits.
- Independently formulates and decides on internal audits – then works with company departments to schedule and execute regular internal audits.
- Reviews and analyzes policies being considered for potential cancellation, then makes independent decisions that determine appropriate actions to be taken and implements those actions.
- Investigates, researches, and prepares files for submission to the various agencies as required for further investigation of insurance fraud.
- Investigates and analyzes disputed claims and independently responds to the policy holder about the decision that was made.
- Researches and independently responds to inquiries from veterinarians regarding the administration of the policy in relation to medical questions.
- Instructs and provides on-going information internally to VPI departments to maintain compliance with the State Department of Insurance regulations.
- Formulates and prepares all new and renewal licenses for producers and adjusters.
- Researches and advises all producers and adjusters of all state licensing requirements.
- Responsible for organizational compliance initiatives.
- Creates a tracking system for licensing, complaints, regulations, and filings that assists with research and analysis functions.
Qualifications Guidelines

Required:
Four year under graduate degree desirable. Two to three years related experience in underwriting, claims, compliance and/or administration. Knowledge and application of laws and regulations to related coverage forms. Participation in professional insurance designation programs desirable (FMLI, CLU, CPCU, IIA) . Special licensing such as NASD or Notary required occasionally. Familiarity with insurance laws, regulations, principles and practices necessary. Experience with medical terminology a plus.
Language Ability
Oral and written communication skills for interaction with insurance departments, to produce written analyses and advise support areas on regulatory requirements, changes and policy forms. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the veterinary community. Above average writing skills. Ability to perform legal research using all available reference materials.
Math
Ability to perform simple calculations including discount, interest, proportions and percentages.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to analyze regulations, legislation and bulletins, and to evaluate and recommend solutions to compliance issues. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common veterinary scientific, technical and legal journals and contracts. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Organizational skills and multi-tasking capabilities required.
Computer Skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and internet access. Power Point is a plus.
Physical Demands
The employee works within an office environment with moderate noise levels and temperature conditions and no direct exposure to hazardous substances. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee may be expected to lift, move and carry records and documents typically weighing 20 pounds or less. Finger dexterity is required for use of personal computer and standard office equipment.
