Mentoring

Mentoring Program

The Mihaylo College Executive Council Mentoring Program is created to provide students a bridge between their academic life and their respective careers by mentors who are business professionals from the Executive Council.

Executive Council professionals will mentor Business Honors Students, Dean’s Scholars and Business Inter-Club Council students about the intricacies of the corporate culture. Some topics may include what to expect and how to prepare for job interviews, the job expectations of corporate employers, networking, and professional development. The mentor will guide the student using experience and observation as a point of reference.

Mentor of the Year

Congratulations Wayne Pinnell
Recipient of the 2015 Executive Council Mentor of the Year Award

Mr. Pinnell is the most accommodating, kind, and helpful mentor I have ever had. He has met with me multiple times and given me so much insight into accounting, which has helped me earn three Accounting Summer Leadership Programs from three out of the Big Four accounting firms. He is so deserving of the Outstanding Council Mentor Award! Each time I visit his office, he gives me new insight into working at an accounting firm and shows me exactly what auditors do every day. He introduced me to younger members of Haskell & White so that I can get insight into what first years usually do. All in all, Wayne has given me the passion to pursue accounting.

— Mentee, Lia Larasati

Wayne has been a member of the Executive Council for 5 years. He currently sits on the Board and is heavily involved in the success of our Mihaylo business students. Mr. Pinnell also serves CSU Fullerton as a part-time faculty member for the Department of Accounting. He teaches a 400-level course in Auditing on the Irvine campus. Over the last 13 years in the classroom, he has regularly received outstanding student evaluations as a teacher who is able to bring industry-specific examples to the classroom.

I am proud to be a board member for The Executive Council and a participant in the Mentoring Program. While I have been associated with CSUF for many years as both a recruiter and a part-time lecturer in the Department of Accounting, the Mentoring Program has truly provided a unique experience to work one-on-one with a student who will surely be an up and coming business leader. It is a very rewarding to work with a student such as Lia and to share experiences that may go a long way to shaping her future.

– Wayne Pinnell

Outstanding mentors are critical to the education of students and to creating a successful student experience. Thank you to all of the Executive Council Members who participate in the mentoring program.
