Zack Swire `03
I opened SWIRE in 2005 and we’re presently 29 employees in 4 offices (LA, DC, NY and CO). We’ve more than doubled our revenue year-after-year and we plan to triple it this year. We’ve done this by developing a new approach to advertising. One that understands the typical (or old) agency model needs updating. Our approach is simple...we solve problems. What does that mean? It means we harmonize the power of science with the magnetism of story-based creative. I know that’s a mouthful, but it really works. The elements are the key; science (Strategy and Analytics) blended with creative (Art and Story) to produce the best results possible (solutions that work).
We’ve been very successful in the cable industry working with Cox Communications, Time Warner and others. They have giant customer bases that are heavily contested. Our custom loyalty and retention programs have proven more successful than those programs built by their corporate offices with the “big” agencies. A recent six month loyalty campaign saved them over 2 million in acquisition dollars and our innovative online offer redemption system has proven redemption rates upwards of 18% on mailed offers.
In addition to cable, we work with a number of companies from insurance to retail to non-profits. We’ve also been quite busy in developing social media strategies and plans – one particular retail brand in the works utilizes celebrity and social media in an entirely new way. Our approach, solving problems, is quite universal. We take our senior team in and discuss the 50,000 foot level of your business, what issues you’re presently facing, what your goals are and what has and has not worked for you. Then, we meet internally and develop a “big board”, our proprietary view of your integrated marketing efforts. From that, we build a proposal with visuals and budgets. We’ll present this to you without any commitment. It’s our way of showing you we are confident in our work and want to be a partner, not just a one-off project agency.
Our Strategy team is led by Mark Snow, a marketing science genius who also know how to blend science into actionable intel to make decisions. Before joining us, he was a VP at Cox hired by the CMO of Cox Corporate to build out their analytics strategy. Our EVP of Accounts is Chris Palmisano, formerly of Y&R in New York heading such brands as Dannon and BAND-AID. Our EVP of Creative is Joe Burke, formerly Brand Director of Disney Stores North America and Wet Seal. Me, I’m a young guy with a lot of heart and passion that likes to hire amazing talent and solve problems. I’m also a dad to three two-year olds (triplets), so building the company while raising my family has been a challenge, but the most rewarding experience of my life. It’s helped me keep balance at work which has in turn made our team happier and able to produce amazing work because they love what they do.
